According to a news release from Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch, a man was killed by a fallen tree on Sunday.
Central Dispatch received a call around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, in reference to a tree falling on a subject in the 8300 Block of Highway 144.
A tree collapsed in the opposite direction as planned and struck the victim, later identified as 62-year-old Stanley Sheldon. The land had been recently purchased and the victim was cutting trees for firewood.
The tree trapped Sheldon until the Knottsville Fire Department was able to cut the tree and remove it. First responders immediately started CPR and Sheldon was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
