The Daviess County Public Library was one of only three libraries across the state to receive the Spotlight Award from the Libraries Lead with Digital Skills initiative. Along with the Crittenden Library and the Casey County Public Library, DCPL received this honor for its efforts in digitally expanding workforce programming at its library.

The award was given to DCPL through the American Library Association (ALA), the Public Library Association (PLA) and Google.

ALA’s website said its partnership with Google and the Libraries Lead with Digital Skills program are initiatives to ensure that public libraries across the nation receive ongoing access to free tools and resources to help everyone across America grow their skills, careers and businesses.

To receive the Spotlight Award, DCPL had to host one or a series of workshops that combined the work DCPL does with PLA and Grow with Google resources in one of two themes: Assist job seekers to find or prepare for work or empower small businesses to grow online.

Libraries that complete their prerequisites for possible funding opportunities are considered for a secondary selection process to receive a Spotlight Award.

DCPL’s Spotlight Award earned the library a $4,000 grant, and the library could be given the opportunity to participate in additional opportunities for ALA, PLA and Google to promote its program as a best practice.
