According to Kentucky Fried Chicken Manager Frank Brewer, Owensboro’s final KFC restaurant, located at 3212 KY-54, is closed down, but only temporarily.

Brewer said the restaurant has plans to reopen after renovations take place, adding that all staff, including himself, were let go on a whim and will not regain their jobs once KFC opens back up in early 2020.

“I received the call at 10:02 p.m. Sunday night and was told, ‘Don’t come back in Monday morning,’” Brewer said. “They changed the locks on the door after that.”

Those who worked at KFC until its temporary closure will have to go through the interview and hiring process again, including drug testing, Brewer added.

“That really hurt us,” he said. “No notice, no nothing. Just give us something. We deserve severance pay until we get another job.”

Brewer had worked at Owensboro’s KFC for almost a year and said he’s been trying to get in contact with the owner to no avail.

JRN, Inc., a KFC franchisee, purchased the building and will take over as the new owners of the restaurant.—confirmed Chris Pops, former owner of the Owensboro location.
