Sunday morning Facebook was filled with comments from Owensboro residents saying they heard loud “gunshot-like” noises from downtown area Saturday night.
The noises they heard were actually fireworks coming from the Alliance Coal Christmas Party being held at the Owensboro Convention Center.
The firework show lasted several minutes.
Owensboro Convention Center general manager Laura Alexander said this organization went through the City of Owensboro and the Owensboro Fire Department to get everything approved and up to code and then told the convention center officials what they were doing.
“It was all legit,” she said.
