Owensboro Mayor Tom Watson and the Owensboro Board of Commissioners will hold a press conference on Wednesday regarding a new community event in 2020.
Owensboro Times was able to confirm that the event will be hydroplane racing and will take place in August of this year.
Elected officials believe the hydroplane races will be highly attended and bring many visitors to the Owensboro riverfront.
Jared Bratcher, sports marketing director for Visit Owensboro, said, “It’s something we’ve hoped to see for 10 years. And we’re excited to see them return – it’s been around 40 years since they’ve been here. We love the history the hydroplanes have with Owensboro.”
