On Saturday, the Owensboro Police Department was contacted by multiple potential victims of a phone scam. These individuals received a phone call from someone claiming to be a member of OPD and were advised they have either a warrant or civil paperwork against them and that they need to call the phone number provided to make a payment to avoid being arrested.
OPD said this is a scam and not to call the number provided in the call. Officers will never contact you over the phone to request payment. The correct number for OPD is 270-687-8888.
