Local photographer Talea Gaw knows all too well the pain that comes from a pregnancy loss. As a way to give back to other women who have struggled with pregnancy loss or infertility, Gaw has created a giveaway to honor a special woman.

“The idea came to me last year after I did a session for a client that had experienced a later miscarriage<‘ she said. “When she had a baby following this, I offered to do a rainbow family session for her. It was neat. She cried when she came to see the pictures.”

Gaw, who owns Reflections by Talea Photography, said she has heard clients talk about the financial side of their struggle, how much they had to invest to get pregnant or to adopt. Gaw specializes in newborn and family photography and used her expertise to create a special project she has titled “The Rainbow Gift.”

“Just knowing what I can do to touch somebody and being able to do something special for someone else will be rewarding,” Gaw said. “I have had two losses in early miscarriages. I know that that’s not even the start of the struggle. It’s always been special to me and I always wanted to think of a way to give back.”

Valued at more than $2,000, “The Rainbow Gift” is a unique photography package that includes no financial obligation at all. The client will receive an entire digital gallery with print release, a gold and glass keepsake box that will hold all the prints, and a unique location — a field or lakeside. The winner is provided with the complete wardrobe to wear during the session for anyone in the photo including dad, mom and any children.

“The gold and glass box is one of my favorite things we offer,” she said. “Clients at any time can add this to their order. I love the higher-end products that make the session more special, more of an investment value that clients really want to get.”

Gaw, who was one of the first photographers in Owensboro to offer a full wardrobe, said she knows that someone struggling with loss or infertility has invested so much already and may not have anything to invest in photos.

“This is not going to be a random winner,” she said. “This is something that I want to be way more personal and intimate. Their baby is their rainbow gift and this is going to be my gift to them.”

The giveaway will be a chance for someone to nominate themselves or family members who have gone through infertility or a loss. The Rainbow Gift nomination links, which go live this week, will take place on the Reflections by Talea Facebook and Instagram pages.

“There will be no long process of what they have to do,” she said. “People can give a little snippet of what they’ve gone through. I will read each one and see which story speaks to me. With something like this it’s so personable. It’s much more meaningful than just tagging a friend and hoping you win.”
