Audubon Area Head Start has decided to close in alignment with local school district due to COVID-19.

The following statement was issued by Audubon Area Head Start Director Jeff Martin:

After many discussions with multiple agencies and listening to the latest information from Governor Beshear, Audubon Area Head Start has decided to close in alignment with local school districts due to COVID-19. This includes Audubon Area Head Start Centers that are not blended with the school system. This is a difficult decision as Head Start centers usually remain open during a crisis if possible, but this is an unprecedented situation as we are experiencing a pandemic with the highly contagious virus. We are encouraged by the fact it does not appear that our students are at a high risk for the virus, but they can easily transmit it to others and spread it in the community.

We know this decision may be an inconvenience for many. Governor Beshear has recommended to close schools and stop large gatherings to slow the spread and impact of the virus. We hope this aggressive approach will lessen the spread of COVID-19 and help keep all families safe. Audubon Area Head Start will re-evaluate the situation and potential opening of our centers based on the local school system’s reopening dates.
