Kentucky State Police is kicking off a new campaign aimed at targeting drivers who exhibit aggressive behaviors on the road. The TACT (Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks) Blitz began Sunday.

KSP’s TACT Blitz will focus on curbing the number of aggressive incidents that take place on the road, including improper lane-switching, speeding, following other cars too closely, not leaving enough space to pass and failure to yield the right-of-way.

This campaign was announced by the KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Division and will run for two weeks.

“Many preventable crashes result from unsafe driving behavior such as speeding, distracted driving and following too close,” said Sgt. Jason Morris. “Oftentimes we see this on our highways when motorists and commercial vehicle drivers struggle to share the road.”

In 2019, there were 6,147 crashes involving commercial trucks on Kentucky roadways. These crashes resulted in the deaths of 88 people.

Major Nathan Day, commercial vehicle enforcement division director, said KSP will use social media, radio and other forms of public outreach to educate Kentuckians on the dangers of aggressive driving.

“Along with high visibility enforcement, we will use media outreach to educate drivers,” he said. “It’s not about writing tickets — it’s about saving lives. At the end of the day, we want everyone to arrive to their destination safely.”
