John Prine dies at 73

John Prine, a two-time Grammy winner and singer-songwriter, died Tuesday at age 73. He had been hospitalized since March 26 and the cause of death was related to complications from COVID-19.

Prine had several local connections to the Owensboro area. He headlined ROMP in 2015 and his parents were from Muhlenberg County.

His extensive catalog has been recorded by the likes of Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Kris Kristofferson, Carly Simon and others.

Prine was also an author, actor, record-label owner and a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
