People lined up in their cars at Lake Forest Town Center’s parking lot Saturday for a drive-thru market organized by small business owners.

Live music, shop owners and Minion characters waved and greeted people as they pulled in to buy food or shop for produce and other goods from their cars.

The “Drive-Thru Market Extravaganza” was created in collaboration with the shopping center’s small business owners as a way to generate sales as well as provide people an opportunity to get out of their house.

Trunnell’s Farm Market owner Kevin Trunnell, who was one of the lead organizers, said cars started coming in almost immediately.

“We’re very pleased with what has happened, people appreciate it and have told us that they hope we continue to do this,” Trunnell said. “We were very pleased with the response we had today.

At the produce stand, yellow squash and broccoli sold out quickly, which was a surprise to Trunnell.

Still, he had high expectations and said he was not disappointed.

Nathan Hart, a local math teacher attended the event Saturday with his wife and daughter hoping to buy some food, fresh vegetables and flowers.

“It’s been amazing just to get out and see other people and talk to a fellow teacher up there,” he said. “We had to get out of the house and come out here and see what it was all about.”

Hart said he didn’t mind wanting in his car and simply enjoyed being in the company of other people.

The other business owners came by and checked in with Trunnell and reported that “things were going good for them too, good response, good turnout, and we appreciate the community for supporting us,” he said.

The weekend drive-thru market is tentatively scheduled from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturdays at Lake Forest Town Center.
