Friday after 5 has been cancelled for the entire 2020 season due to COVID-19. The FA5 board will make the official announcement Tuesday morning.

The first two events of the season — May 22 and May 29 — had already been cancelled. The season was scheduled to run through Sept. 4.

“This decision was not made lightly, as the board carefully considered all options and felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented time, and voted in favor of the cancellation,” said FA5 Interim Executive Director Starr Nalley in a release. “At this time the sponsors, bands and everyone involved are being informed and asked to continue to the next season.”

The board discussed the idea of only cancelling events through the end of June, but it was ultimately decided to nix the season altogether based on talks with venue partners and recommendations from health experts at the local, state and national levels.

Despite the best efforts and intentions, it is simply no longer possible to execute the summer experience safely,” Nalley said. “First, it was going to be month-to-month, but there are too many unknowns with business partners that may be struggling, bands traveling, and when would the community be comfortable or even be allowed to gather in large groups.”

Many sponsors have already signed up for next year.

The 2021 season will be the 25th anniversary for FA5.

“Friday After 5 remains committed to creating a memorable experience in 2021,” Nalley said. “It is, after all, the 25th Anniversary. Follow our social media platforms for updates and perhaps a few surprises along the way.”
