Lauren Shan and Allison Fallin describe themselves as a couple of “basic” moms who are a little bit of overachievers. Now the two friends, who both work in physical therapy, have started a blog to help educate women on a number of health topics as well as grow a community of like-minded people.

The blog will consist of women’s health education, and they plan to address a new topic every week. Other postings include mom hacks, beauty and “green living.”

The duo has worked together for several years and developed a passion for how physical therapy can help women in any step of life.

“We both have grown passionate about raising awareness of these services for women, thus the idea of a blog came into motion,” Shan said. “As we started organizing ideas for the blog, we realized there was another message we also wanted to share with women, which is it’s okay to try and be perfect and not be.”

The blog’s logo is a play off of the recycling logo, and the women founded a goal of three R’s for the blog: “reach women, relax from the mindset we have to do it all, and rebuild a positive women’s community.”

Fallin said they have a mission to let others know it’s okay to relax.

“We don’t have to do it all,” she said. “We need to rebuild our mindsets and self-expectations as women and to reach and grow a supportive women’s community.”

Shan has similar ideas.

“So often as women we take care of everyone else first,” Shan said. “It’s so easy to let social media make one feel like they should be doing more or strive to be better. We want to be a platform where women can learn about their bodies/health, enjoy time-saving hacks we’ve found along the way, and connect with women who are sharing the good, the bad and the ugly.”

Fallin said her personal goal for the blog is to have fun.

“It is definitely a creative outlet for the two of us but also our goal is to reach ladies, especially in our community,” she said. “I did not grow up in this community, so making connections is something I truly value. We hope that others can feel understood and empowered to do more, but not feel like they have to be perfect all the time.”

The blog will go live July 1, and they are currently posting teasers of the blog on their Facebook page titled The Basic Overachiever Moms.
