The Owensboro Symphony has announced that the annual Concert on the Lawn has been postponed until August 2021 due to the lingering threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was set to take place Aug. 16.

The program for this year’s concert was A Tribute to the Circus with Grammy award winning vocalist, Laura Dickinson.

“The health and safety of our musicians, staff, and patrons remain our primary concern as we follow the guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention along with local and state officials,” said Gwyn Payne, Deputy CEO of the Symphony. “At this time it is just not possible to put our musicians on stage and maintain proper social distancing, we must put safety before all else.”

Concert on the Lawn has been a popular summer event in Owensboro that is held annually at Kentucky Wesleyan College. The concert has been underwritten by U.S. Bank for over 30 years, allowing Owensboro Symphony to host the event for free.

“It saddens us all to make this decision, but we do it out of concern for our audience, our musicians and our staff,” Troy Quinn, music director/conductor. “We are looking forward to the time when we can safely get together and make music again.”
