Owensboro’s Gavin Wimsatt has been pretty busy the last few weeks as he’s not only the 37th-ranked player in the country according to 247Sports, but he now has a four-star recruiting rank from Rivals.
Wimsatt has a 5.6 Rivals Rating — putting him in a position to be ranked in the Rivals100 when they release the ranks for the 2020 class.
The Red Devil junior said he’s excited about the honor.
“It’s a blessing to be bumped up to a four-star on Rivals,” he said. “It’s just a reflection of all the hard work I put in.”
CatsIllustrated publisher Justin Rowland gave Wimsatt high praise in his recent article about the dual-threat quarterback.
“Owensboro, Ky., quarterback Gavin Wimsatt is on track to become one of the most wanted signal-callers from the Commonwealth since Tim Couch,” Rowland said.
Rivals.com Midwest analyst Josh Helmholdt also had words to say about Wimsatt in a recent Rivals article.
“It’s early and we did not have much of an off-season, but Wimsatt is the best QB prospect I have scouted in the 2022 class so far,” he said. “In-person I really appreciated his throwing mechanics and how beautifully he spins the football. When I watch film it’s obvious he has those intangibles you look for in a quarterback as well as the ability to make plays with his feet when the pocket breaks down.”
The offers continue to come in for Wimsatt, as he’s picked up a few in the last two weeks.
Owensboro is scheduled to start the season Sept. 11 at Rash Stadium against Apollo.
