Update 4:30 p.m.: The subject has been identified as 35-year-old Michael Fairrow of Owensboro. The Owensboro Police Department was assisting the United States Marshal Service, which was attempting to serve a federal indictment warrant on Fairrow.

The incident took place in the 3900 block of Evergreen Drive. Fairrow was taken into custody without issue after a few hours of remaining inside the residence on the west side of Owensboro, according to OPD officials.

“We received information from family members that he was likely armed and he had made indications that he would not surrender,” said OPD Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess. “Based upon that and indications that we had that we believed he was inside the apartment, we attempted to make contact.”

Boggess said it was determined that Fairrow ultimately had climbed into the attic and ended up entering into an adjacent apartment that was occupied at the time. Boggess said those residents were able to evacuate the apartment safely.

Boggess said he does not believe there were any injuries or that there was ever a hostage situation based upon preliminary reports.

The incident is still under investigation, and Boggess said several charges are likely.

Streets are back open for traffic.

Update 3:30 p.m.: The subject is now in custody. Law enforcement will still remain on the scene. A name has not been released at this time.
