Habitat for Humanity is getting a new home in 2021. The nonprofit is moving to 1701 Breckenridge St. next spring after 11 years at its current location.

Virginia Braswell, the organization’s executive director, said the reason they are moving is because the construction crew and the board of directors felt they needed more room and more privacy.

The move will take them from an office and warehouse at 1702 Moseley St., to the former Office Equipment Co. building.

Braswell said they are currently working on putting in different office spaces.

“We have all kinds of big plans,” she said. “But we’ve had a little bit of a holdup due to some planning and zoning issues.”

Aside from making room for more offices, they are doing some electric work for the computers and working on the new warehouse.

“The warehouse will be bigger and will allow us to pre-build some of the walls for houses and store them until we need them,” she said. “We’ll also be able to use the space if the weather is bad. Any volunteers who want to help, then they have a big space to work.”

Braswell said thanks to some “very, very generous” donations, the new building was paid for.

“But there are still other expenses — that’s why we are planning the fundraiser,” she said.

Their “Donations, Donuts and Drive-thru” fundraiser will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the new Habitat location.

“I’ll be out there with my Santa Clause hat waving people in,” Braswell said.
