The mural on a wall at Kendall Perkins Park meant to celebrate unity and the Black community was vandalized with racist messages and symbols Wednesday morning. The Owensboro Police Department is investigating the incident.

According to OPD, the vandalism occurred at approximately 8:20 a.m. They released the following photo regarding a suspect.

The Northwest Neighborhood Alliance, led by chairperson Rafe Buckner, began a collaboration with Aaron Kizer last year to create a timeline of African art meant to celebrate unity and the Black community.

Kizer completed two images prior to the end of 2020. The suspect spray painted racist messages and symbols on at least two of those.

Detectives are investigating and ask anyone with additional information to call OPD at 270-687-8888, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
