The Owensboro Catholic Girls soccer team picked up their third district win of the season on Tuesday night in convincing fashion. The Lady Aces secured a victory over the home-standing Lady Devils by a margin of 7-0 at Dale Poole Field.

The Lady Aces have now defeated each team in the ninth district once and moved to 6-1 overall. The Lady Devils move to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in district play.

Catholic got off to a slow start, heading into the half with only a 1-0 lead. Head coach Andy Hines credited Owensboro, led by goalie Chandler Worth for slowing them down offensively.

“We really struggled in the first half; there was a lot of kicking the ball around — Chandler Worth, their goalie was great tonight,” he said. “They kept things compact and played a good game; you have to give credit where credit is due.”

The Lady Aces had ample opportunities to connect in the first half but couldn’t seem to piece things together. In the second half, they accelerated their offense to generate some quick points and eventually put the game away.

“We played much faster and quicker in the second half; our quick ball movement played a key role in the late stages of the game,” Hines said. “We did a good job of getting the ball in quicker, distributing earlier, eliminating extra touches, and getting our crosses earlier.”

Mallary Bailey led the way for the Lady Aces with three goals, while Maddie Hayden, Ginny Young, Jahaira Ward, and Emilee Cecil each accounted for one goal apiece. The Lady Devils keyed in on Ashton Logsdon, and she combatted with a game-high four assists.
