Owensboro and Apollo boys soccer suffered losses on Saturday, while Daviess County thrived in the Tiger Invitational and Owensboro Catholic showed out in their first game at All A State.

Owensboro vs. Central Hardin

Central Hardin’s offense was too much for the Red Devils to handle on Saturday, falling 3-2 thanks to a late second half goal.

The Bruins struck first on Saturday, converting in the 11th minute as senior Corbin Durrance found the back of the net to put them up 1-0.

The Red Devils responded 10 minutes later, as junior Jacob O’bryan received the ball via a corner kick and put it past the keeper to knot things up at 1-1 in the 20th minute.

Central Hardin didn’t back down though, grabbing another goal before the first half came to a close.

A corner kick was sent into the box to find senior Westin Bowman who scored to put the Bruins up 2-1 in the 32nd minute of play.

Looking to pull off a comeback win, Owensboro went straight to work in the second half, as sophomore Peter Saang connected with sophomore Miles Baur to knot things up at 2-2 in the 49th minute.

However, Central Hardin had other ideas. After the game had gone to a bit of a stalemate, Kase VanBlijenburgh received a through ball and converted to give them a 3-2 lead with 18 minutes left to play.

The Red Devils did all they could to knot things up and force extra time, but they were unable to convert any more of their seven shots on goal and fell to the Bruins 3-2.

The loss moves Owensboro to 6-8 overall on the season and will look to bounce back when they return home to host Hopkins County Central at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Daviess County @ Tiger Invitational

The Panthers had a strong performance at the Tiger Invitational, defeating Evansville Memorial and St. Xavier.

Daviess County took on Evansville Memorial first, finding success offensively to grab a 3-1 win and extend its winning streak to three games.

The Panthers struck first as senior Tanner Anderson’s shot was deflected by the goalie, but junior Dax Sandifer was there to clean it up and make it a 1-0 game in the 23rd minute of play.

Daviess County took this lead into halftime, expanding on their lead immediately after the beginning of the second half.

It only took the Panthers four minutes after halftime to find the back of the net again, as junior Sean Higgs fed freshman Jack Quisenberry who made it a 2-0 game.

Minutes later, Higgs dished out another assist as he connected with Anderson to make it a 3-0 game in the 46th minute.

Evansville Memorial was able to finally find the back of the net in the 78th minute, but it was too little too late as Daviess County came away with the 3-1 win.

A quick turnaround had the Panthers taking on St. Xavier the next day, coming away with a 1-0 victory.

Neither team was able to muster up much offense in the first half, as they headed into halftime tied at 0-0.

With both teams getting shots on goal but not converting, it seemed as though the game was going to remain tied.

However, in the 52nd minute a penalty was drawn and Anderson made the most of the opportunity.

Anderson was able to put it past the keeper for his second goal of the tournament, giving Daviess County a 1-0 lead.

With a lot of time left both teams continued to push the envelope offensively, but the Panthers defense was able to hold off St. Xavier and grab the 1-0 win.

Daviess County now owns a four-game winning streak and sits at 11-1-3 as they return home to host Henderson County at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Apollo vs. North Hardin

Coming off a tough loss to Daviess County Apollo suffered a similar fate against North Hardin, falling 1-0.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net, despite both creating ample scoring opportunities.

Junior keeper Steven Taran was working hard at net to keep the Trojans off the board, but they eventually broke through.

Halfway through the second half senior Cayden Logsdon scored on an assist from senior Carter Stevens to make it a 1-0.

North Hardin had 13 shots on goal to the Eagles’ seven, but the lone goal from the senior duo was the difference maker, giving the Trojans the 1-0 win.

This marks the second straight home loss for Apollo as they fall to 7-6-1 as they will look to bounce back when they hit the road to take on Webster County at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Owensboro Catholic vs. Russellville

Owensboro Catholic hit the road to give themselves a chance to compete for some hardware in All A State and did just that, defeating Russellville 4-0.

The Aces were relentless offensively, owning possession the majority of the game and rattling off shot after shot.

They took 21 shots on the day while putting eight on goal, opposed to Russellville’s four shots with only one on goal.

Junior Austin Martin finished with a brace to lead the team offensively, while senior Davis Conner and freshman Ben Dawson both had a goal each.

Sophomore Brody Martin recorded two assists on the day, while senior Aaron Self and junior Hayden Thomas had an assist each.

They will now compete in the Final Eight of All A State next Saturday, taking on Frankfort. But before this matchup, they will return home to take on Madisonville-North Hopkins at 7 p.m. on Monday.
