The 14th Annual Lifesavers Walk is set for Saturday at Moreland Park. Brandi Kessler, president of the Owensboro Regional Suicide Prevention Coalition, is inviting the entire community to come out and participate.

Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the opening ceremony butterfly release begins at 10 a.m. There will be activities for the entire family until 2 p.m.

Sponsor booths will be there to offer resources. ORSPC volunteers will have information on free QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training, Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group, T-shirts, and more.

Fire trucks and police cars will be parked on Hickman Avenue for children to visit. Jessica Hodges from Iron Jungle will teach attendees Zumba at noon. The Spot Coffee and Finery, Cold Stone Creamery and Real Hacienda food trucks will be parked throughout the event.

Kessler said over the years, the organization has grown and really focuses on suicide prevention.

“The term lifesavers is the purpose,” she said. “It’s to save those lives. That is what the walk is about — prevention and supporting those who have lost to suicide.”

The Owensboro Regional Suicide Prevention Coalition strives to provide the community with resources and hopes that by making people more aware of suicide and de-stigmatizing it, work can begin on interventions for the community.
