Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials on Tuesday said no bids were placed last month for the KY 54 expansion project, so they will try again in December.

“Section 1.1 was put out for a construction bid and there were no bids on it,” said KYTC Planning Section Supervisor Nick Hall said during the Owensboro-Daviess County Metropolitan Planning Organization meeting.

Section 1.1 represents mile marker 2.4 to mile marker 3.8 — roughly Heartland Crossing Boulevard to Bold Forbes Way.

Hall said he did not have an explanation as to why there were no bids placed.

The new bid order has similar language to the original. Another KYTC official said that similarly, Hancock County had to place a bid order several times before receiving a one to operate.

In Hancock County, the lack of bids was due of the magnitude of the project.

“So maybe that is the issue, that the project is of such magnitude, maybe that’s why [it didn’t receive a bid], but I really don’t know,” Hall said.

KYTC Chief District Engineer for District 2 Deneatra Henderson was out of the office to answer any questions pertaining to the expansion.
