Dangerously cold air with chills as cold as -20 degrees, winds gusts of more than 40 mph, and accumulating snow are expected in the area starting Thursday and continuing through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
A Monday morning alert from the NWS reads:
Dangerously cold air will arrive across the region Thursday night and last through Christmas weekend. Wind chills will be well below zero and potentially as cold as -20 on Friday and Saturday mornings. Confidence is fairly high that travel impacts may occur Thursday evening into Friday morning due to accumulating snow and very strong winds gusting up to 40 to 50 mph.
