The Owensboro Fire Department responded to an outbuilding fire near the intersection of 7th and Jackson streets just before noon on Sunday. OFD extinguished the fire within an hour, preventing the potential for additional damage. There were no injuries.

The storage building was located on the back side of the property recently purchased by Friends of Sinners (FoS) to serve as their new facility.

“We are okay,” said FoS development director Jordan Wilson. “It was a storage building, and there was no other damage.”

OFD deployed three engine companies, a ladder company, a rescue company, and a 95, stabilizing a defensive attack on both ends of the structure. OFD Batallion Chief Kevin Lanham said his team punched out to respond to the fire at 11:23 a.m.

“All of our units did an excellent job,” Lanham said. “It could have gotten out of hand quickly and impacted two adjacent structures. Thanks to the efficient efforts of everyone involved, we were able to protect the city from any additional safety concerns and damage.”

Other agencies responding included Owensboro Municipal Utilities, Owensboro Police Department, and AMR.
