The Owensboro Fire Department is hosting an open house on March 2.
Members of the Owensboro Fire Department will be available to provide information about the hiring process and showcase various equipment demonstrations. The open house is designed to offer an opportunity for individuals interested in learning more about joining OFD to interact directly with current firefighters and gain insights into the recruitment process.
The open house will run from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Station 1 (512 West 9th Street).
Fire Chief James Howard recently reported that OFD responded to almost 2,600 fewer calls in 2023 than the year prior. OFD changed their response criteria in 2022 to raise morale and lower fatigue.
Going into 2024, Howard recently said he has several goals for the department, including better preparing firefighters to fight electric vehicle fires, completing the construction of the fire training center, and achieving Commission on Fire Accreditation International accreditation.
