A 22-year-old man forced his way into a woman’s vehicle and assaulted her before driving away and crashing with her still inside the vehicle, according to a police citation. The incident happened at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of 2nd Street, which is near the judicial center.
According to the citation, Ty Hardison approached the victim when she returned to her parked vehicle near 109 East 2nd Street and told her he had a gun.
“He then forced his way into the vehicle and made [the victim] sit in the front passenger area. After demanding the keys to the vehicle he assaulted her by punching her in the stomach and on her knee, and then found the keys in her front pants pocket,” the citation reads.
A small portion of the citation is redacted, with OPD Public Information Officer Dylan Evans saying the information was withheld due to the sexual nature of the crime.
The citation then continues: “After forcing her to sit on the floorboard he drove the vehicle to 3rd Street and Daviess Street where he ran the red light, causing a collision with another vehicle.
He then fled the scene on foot before being apprehended by officers near 4th Street and Crittenden Street.”
The citation says Hardison was transported to the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. According to OPD, an officer read Hardison his Miranda rights but he waived them and admitted to the following offenses:
- First-degree robbery
- First-degree rape
- First-degree wanton endangerment
- Fourth-degree assault
- Kidnapping-adult
- Leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid or assistance
- No operators-moped license
Hardison was later discharged from the emergency room and booked into the Daviess County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in District Court on Monday morning.
