An ongoing effort to investigate drug trafficking taking place at area hotels and motels resulted in two more arrests Friday morning, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 7 a.m. on Friday, the DCSO Special Investigations Unit, General Investigations Unit, K-9 Unit, and patrol deputies executed a search warrant at the Colonel House Motel (1829 Triplett Street), according to a release from the agency.

According to DCSO, Paul E. Burroughs and Summer D. Powell were present at the time of the warrant service and were detained.

“Evidence of an ongoing drug trafficking operation including synthetic marijuana (spice), methamphetamine, baggies, U.S. currency, scales, paraphernalia, and surveillance equipment was located in the room,” the release reads. “All of these items were seized as part of the investigation and logged into evidence at DCSO.”

Burroughs, 58, and Powell, 33, were charged and transported to the Daviess County Detention Center.

They were both charged with trafficking in synthetic Drugs, 1st offense; drug paraphernalia – buy/possess; and possession of controlled substances, 1st degree — 1st offense (Methamphetamine). Burroughs was also charged with trafficking in synthetic drugs, 2nd or greater offense. Powel faces the additional charge of tampering with physical evidence.

According to DCSO, additional arrests are expected “as this is an ongoing operation.”

DCSO also noted that 7 arrests were made in January during a similar operation for trafficking out of area hotels and motels. Read about those arrests here.
