A juvenile has been arrested for the non-fatal shooting of a juvenile female on Town Square Court on Friday afternoon, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
According to a release, OPD officers responded to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital at 5:38 p.m. on March 29 to a report of a juvenile female with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene to continue the investigation.
“Statements and evidence gathered at the hospital prompted detectives and officers to focus their investigation on an apartment located in the 4700 block of Towne Square Ct,” according to the release. “It was determined during the investigation that another juvenile, who was present at the apartment, had been in possession of a handgun. While in possession of the handgun, the juvenile suspect negligently discharged the firearm, resulting in the juvenile female being struck in the right leg.”
The juvenile suspect was taken into custody and faces multiple charges associated with the incident. They were subsequently lodged in the Warren County Regional Juvenile Detention Center on the following charges, according to OPD:
- Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree (Enhancement)
- Possession of Handgun by Minor — 2nd or > Offense
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
According to OPD, the juvenile has previously been charged with the following:
- Resisting Arrest
- Disorderly Conduct, 2nd Degree
- Assault, 3rd Degree – Peace Officer – Communicable Bodily Fluid
- Assault, 3rd Degree – Police Officer
- Terroristic Threatening, 3rd Degree
- Assault, 4th Degree – Minor Injury
- Assault, 4th Degree – No Visible Injury
- Possession of Handgun by Minor — 1st Offense
- Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon
- Theft by Unlawful Taking — Shoplifting
- Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree
- Criminal Mischief, 2nd Degree
- Criminal Mischief, 3rd Degree
- Assault, 4th Degree — Dating Violence – No visible Injury
