Patrol officers are on the scene of a firearm discharge where one person sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to the Owensboro Police Department. Officials said the incident is believed to be unrelated to another shooting that injured one person Thursday afternoon.
According to OPD, the incident occurred in the 1200 block of West 5th Street. The individual who was shot was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by AMR Ambulance, officials said.
The OPD Criminal Investigations Division is assisting in the investigation. Authorities said preliminary investigation “suggests this is an isolated incident.” While officials said there was no threat to the public, people are asked to avoid the area at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
OPD said they believe the shooting on West 5th Street is unrelated to the one that occurred in the 2800 block of West 5th Street. Read more on that incident here.
