Fighting off the humidity, the Lady Aces finished first in the Owensboro Invitational, with five runners finishing in the top 10.

Peyton Reid finished with the best individual time, running 19:49.10. Scarle Isenbarger (3rd, 21:03.49), Caroline Wathen (4th, 21:26.99), Ainsley Sutter (6th, 22:04.72), and Ashlie Hayden (7th, 22:20.07) rounded out the teams times.

“The girls gave a solid effort today and I am proud of them all,” Owensboro Catholic girls’ head coach Jacob Reid said. “I believe they’re going to have a really fun season as they continue to work hard, grow as a team, and bond with one another. I’m excited to see all they’re able to accomplish this year.”

On the boys’ side, the Aces were led by Ben Booker (7th, 19:23.60) and Patrick Hauke (17th, 20:27.78).

“We had three guys out this morning, but our three that ran were troopers in the heat,” Owensboro Catholic boys’ head coach Scott Lowe said. “We are keeping healthy and training for the region. There’s still a long season ahead.”

Hosting the Owensboro Invitational, the Red Devils finished second, while the Lady Devils finished third in the 5K. Dylan Fulkerson led the way for Owensboro’s boys’ team (9th, 19:41), while Abby Ladwig (10th, 22:51.53) led the way for the girls’. Henderson County was the boys’ winner.

Rounding out the Red Devils top five times were Juan David Quintana (9th, 19:41.75), Owen Moore (12th, 19:50.83), Ace Skimehorn (13th, 19:52.98), and Isrell Roberts (19th, 20:39.58).

“Henderson County’s pack was a little closer than ours today which ultimately resulted with them bringing home first and placing us second by about 10 points,” Owensboro boy’s head coach Griffen Kelley said. “Although the team score wasn’t the outcome we wanted, this is big progress for the guys. With many coaching changes throughout the decade, this is one of the first team trophies we’ve earned in a long time. It was a solid day, but we still have things we need to clean up.”

Kiley Palmer (13th, 23:26.63), Jersie Kline (21st, 25:33.43), Addison Edge (25th, 26:09.94), and Addi Johnson (27th, 26:35.21) rounded out the team’s top five times.

“The Lady Devils got in and fought today in some tough conditions,” Owensboro girls’ head coach Matt Morris said. “The course was humid and really tough this morning. We are also a little banged up this week, but overall, I’m excited about the direction we are heading.”

Apollo had three runners finish in the top 30 and were led by Ava Falloway (9th, 22:32.51).
