The Frozen Lounge, located at 1738 Sweeney Street, will close permanently after this weekend, marking the end of its nearly three-year run offering slushie cocktails, standard cocktails, and more. The lounge also regularly had live music, stand-up comedy, and several other public and private events.
Owner Shanice Carbon reflected on the decision to close and shared her plans to continue bringing unique beverage experiences to the area.
“This has been such an incredible experience, and I’m so grateful for all the support from the community,” Carbon said. “It’s bittersweet, but we’re proud of what we’ve built and the memories we’ve created here.”
While the Frozen Lounge’s physical location will close, Carbon plans to continue her popular pop-up activations at events such as Friday After 5 and other gatherings around Owensboro. She also wants to collaborate with various venues to offer mobile bar experiences, featuring her signature frozen slushie cocktails alongside standard cocktails, beer, and wine.
“We’re looking forward to being more flexible and reaching people in new ways,” Carbon said. “This allows us to bring that same fun and unique experience to different places across town.”
The Frozen Lounge, which opened in April 2022, became known for its signature alcoholic slushies and unique atmosphere. Carbon said her goal was to create an unconventional nightlife experience.
When the lounge first opened, Carbon shared their vision of offering a space where patrons could unwind with unique drinks and a laid-back ambiance. Over time, it hosted events, live music, and gatherings.
Carbon acknowledged the challenges of operating a small business in the current economic climate but emphasized the positive impact the lounge has had on its patrons and staff.
“We’ve had so many great moments here – everything from casual evenings with friends to some unforgettable events,” Carbon said. “It’s been a joy to bring people together in a space like this.”
The Frozen Lounge will open this Friday from 5:30 p.m. to midnight and on Saturday at 8 p.m. for its sold-out comedy event.
“We hope everyone will stop by one last time to celebrate with us,” Carbon said.
