After a thrilling win in the Region Championship last week, Owensboro fell to McCracken County 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 8-25) in the first round of the State Tournament.
“Tonight wasn’t our best showing,” Owensboro head coach Melissa Hibbs said. “We didn’t execute at our level and we’re not offensively as aggressive as we need to be against a team like McCracken. Regardless of the showing tonight, I am proud to coach this special group.”
Addie Travis led the way with eight digs, four kills, and three blocks, while Ava Fincher recorded a team-high seven assists. Anna Travis finished with six assists, five digs, and four kills.
Despite the disappointing end to the year, it was a successful season for the Lady Devils – going 24-14 and winning the team’s first ever 3rd Region volleyball championship.
“I’m so proud of the growth that this team has shown throughout the season,” Hibbs said. “They have battled through injuries and sicknesses. While many wrote off this team in the middle of the season, they battled together and believed in themselves that they could compete with the best and earn the right to represent our region at state. They did everything the right way- they came to practice every day ready to work, they asked questions and watched film in order to be their best version but most of all they encouraged one another and came to battle every match as a family.”
