More than 3,900 Kennergy customers were without power Wednesday afternoon across Daviess and surrounding counties, including a significant outage in the Whitesville area.

According to a 2 p.m. update from Kennergy, crews located two broken poles and are working to replace them. Twelve members will remain without service during the repair. According to a Kennedy social media post, the outage was caused by a farmer accidentally hitting overhead lines with equipment.

The utility is urging residents to remain cautious when operating farm machinery near power lines.

“Please remember to look up when using farm equipment — for your safety and for our members,” the post said.

Kennergy’s outage map shows clusters of outages throughout eastern Daviess and into Ohio and McLean Counties. While 3,933 are reported without power, 344 have already been restored.
