A drug complaint at Owensboro Racing & Gaming on Saturday led to a high-speed pursuit and the arrest of an Owensboro man, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 9 a.m. to the 400 block of Wrights Landing Road near Maceo after casino security contacted Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch about a man reportedly using methamphetamine in his vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Central Dispatch confirmed the suspect’s identity and advised that he had multiple felony warrants, according to the release. Corporal Jacob Gould found the suspect’s vehicle parked at the back of the lot and attempted to investigate, but the suspect fled after striking the front of Gould’s cruiser, the release said.

The suspect exited the parking lot at a high speed, narrowly missing several vehicles and hitting a curb that caused his car to go airborne, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies pursued the vehicle west on Highway 2830 toward Owensboro, reaching speeds close to 100 mph before ending the chase on Highway 144 near Daniels Lane due to traffic conditions.

A short time later, deputies found the abandoned vehicle on East 4th Street near East Highland Court and began searching the area. Deputy Preston Schilke and Deputy Chris Lee located the suspect in an alley near the 600 block of West Highland Avenue. He was arrested after a brief foot pursuit, the release said.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found on the suspect and inside the vehicle.

The suspect was identified as James Reeder, 41, of the 1300 block of West 5th Street in Owensboro. He faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest, wanton endangerment, fleeing and evading, reckless driving, and several drug-related offenses, according to the release.
