Aspiring entrepreneurs in Owensboro will have a chance to turn ideas into action during a free lunch-and-learn event on July 16.

The “Build What Works” event, hosted by the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation and Sprocket, is aimed at individuals exploring business ownership or looking to develop a startup idea. It will be held from 12-1 p.m. at the Old National Bank Building, 123 West 4th Street, and will feature guidance from John Truitt, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Sprocket.

John Truitt, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Sprocket, will lead the event and provide attendees with actionable tools from the Market Fit Lab — a program that helps founders validate ideas, understand customer needs, and build for sustainable growth.

Lunch will be catered by Fetta Pizza, and participation is capped at 30 attendees.

Though Sprocket is based in Paducah, the nonprofit innovation hub serves entrepreneurs throughout Western Kentucky. As one of six Kentucky Innovation Hubs, Sprocket delivers programming, mentorship, and resources for startups, with a particular focus on founders outside large metro areas.

“Entrepreneurship is essential to a strong and vibrant local economy, and we’re seeing more and more people in our region explore it as a path forward,” said Claude Bacon, President and CEO of GOEDC. “We appreciate our partnership with Sprocket and the opportunity to bring their expertise and tools to Owensboro. This event is designed to help individuals take the next step, connect with others, and get the guidance they need to start something of their own.”

Attendees will also receive information on how to apply for the next Owensboro-based Market Fit Lab cohort, launching later this year. The event is free, but registration is required at sprocketwky.com/rsvp.
