Five people have been arrested after large amounts of drugs, 13 rifles, cash, and more were seized during search warrants at two Thornton Avenue homes on Friday, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

Members of the OPD Street Crimes Unit — assisted by detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and patrol officers — executed the two warrants on homes in the 2400 block of Thornton, according to a release from OPD. Investigators believe individuals at both residences were working together to facilitate drug trafficking activities, officials said.

According to OPD, the search of one home led to the seizure of a “large quantity” of crystal methamphetamine, THC products, numerous items of drug paraphernalia, one handgun, 13 rifles, and U.S. currency. Two individuals were arrested at that location:

  • Brandon Kellems, 42, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (1st degree, 2nd offense – enhanced), possession of marijuana, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and was served with two outstanding parole violation warrants.
  • Ashley Stewart, 38, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (1st degree, 2nd offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia, and was served with three outstanding warrants.

Officials said the second search resulted in the seizure of “trafficking quantities” of crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, and multiple items of drug paraphernalia. Three individuals were arrested at that location:

  • Jessica Alexander, 32, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (1st degree, 1st offense), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Stephen Mayfield, 27, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (1st degree, 1st offense), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Travis Lamb, 29, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (1st degree, 1st offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia, and was served with one outstanding warrant.
