A fatal ATV crash in east Daviess County is under investigation, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene around 1:15 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Highway 951 and Highway 1513 near Knottsville, alongside the Daviess County Fire Department, Knottsville Fire Department, and AMR Ambulance Service, according to a release from DCSO.

First responders located a 4-wheeler approximately 10 feet off the roadway and found an unresponsive male nearby. Life-saving measures were attempted by firefighters and deputies, but the subject was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. The Daviess County Coroner’s Office also responded to assist in the investigation.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the ATV was traveling along Highway 951 when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with a tree, according to the sheriff’s office.

The DCSO Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene, and the roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation. It has since reopened.
