The Owensboro Post 9 Bombers split their Saturday doubleheader and followed it up with a win over Pontotoc Red Sox 9-8 on Sunday afternoon to finish their Columbia Tournament run. In the first game of their Saturday doubleheader, the Bombers led 3-1 late over Huntsville, but were unable to close it out, falling 4-3.

Ross Millburn allowed two runs over 2 1/3 innings, while Brett Poole, Carder, and Pate all pitched in relief.
On Sunday, the Bombers jumped out to an early 7-2 lead over the Pontotoc Red Sox and fought off a late comeback to win 9-8. Rogers, Millburn, and Blandford combined for three hits and five RBIs, while Logen Thomas went 2-2. Smith started on the mound, allowing three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings, while Carder gave up three unearned runs in relief.
“Heading into Sunday’s game, our team had a lot of confidence and were playing the number one seed in the tournament in Pontotoc. They are traditionally a powerhouse from Mississippi,” Owensboro Bombers head coach Matt Freeman said. “The boys came out and started hitting the baseball all over the field from the start. Were able to put up enough runs that when they made a couple of late pushes in the game, we were able to hold them. It was a very good win for our program, and hopefully it will lead to more success as the summer continues.”
