In a game where the bats started slow, Owensboro Post 9 Bombers starting pitcher Carter Kimmel was nearly untouchable, allowing one earned run over six innings to power his team to a fifth straight State Championship.

Scoreless entering the bottom of the fourth, Colton Carver crushed a two out double to put the Bombers up 1-0. Owensboro added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Parker Heistand RBI bunt and a Brady Atwell two-run bomb. Lexington cut the lead to 4-2 an inning later, but Owensboro responded with a much-needed insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Luke Quinn took over for Kimmel in the seventh, throwing a perfect inning and striking out one. Brady Atwell finished 204 with three RBIs, while Parker Heistand went 3-4. Brody Brubaker, Jagger Pater, and Carver combined for the teams other three hits

“Every season, our team sets goals, and one is to win the State Championship. Today was a total team effort,” Owensboro Bombers head coach Matt Freeman said. “We used almost every player on the roster in this game, so we were very pleased with how the kids performed. Lexington is a very good ball club, and it was a tight game. Carter Kimmel pitched a gem, and we got some big hits to help us pull it out.”

The Bombers will be back in action for the Regional Tournament and have been placed in the Southeast region in Asheboro North Carolina from August 6-10.
