The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit is offering free microchipping for dogs and cats on Saturday at Yellow Creek Park.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shelter #2, 5710 KY 144.
The service is available to Owensboro and Daviess County residents, who must show ID. No appointment is necessary.
DCSO officials said in a release that microchipping is considered one of the most effective ways to help recover lost pets, and the procedure only takes a few minutes. Officers will also be able to scan pets for existing chips and provide guidance on how to update information if needed.
In addition to the microchipping service, Animal Control officers and Patrol deputies will be on-site to answer questions about their work and to share tips on responsible pet ownership.
The Sheriff’s Office thanked Saving Animals in Need (SAINT) for donating the microchips, along with the Daviess County Fiscal Court and Parks Department for supporting the event.
