For the first time, Owensboro Catholic and Fort Knox are set to kick off in an important district match tonight at 8 pm. Heading into the game, Aces Head Coach Jason Morris acknowledged that the team is coming off arguably their best week of practice.

“Fort Knox is athletic and they have a QB who does a really good job of distributing the ball, but he is also a really good runner,” Morris said. “Their receiver, Brandon Hawkins, is really fast, and we’re going to have to make sure we are keeping him in front of us. They are the type of team that has multiple athletes who can get loose on you if you aren’t where you are supposed to be on defense. We will have to play well.”

The Aces’ defense will need to be ready for the Eagles’ rushing attack, especially QB Jaylen Irish. The dual threat is Fort Knox’s main threat on the ground, rushing for 718 yards and five touchdowns. The Eagles aren’t scared to throw the ball, with Hawkins hauling in 11 receptions for 202 yards and four touchdowns.

A bend but don’t break defense, Fort Knox runs a 4-4 scheme.

“They use the same athletes in their secondary and put their focus on stopping the run and hoping those athletes in the secondary can play man coverage and take care of the pass game for them,” Morris said.

To beat Fort Knox’s athletic secondary, Morris wants to see his receivers focus on the details of their route running, be physical, and create separation.
