Hosting the KHSAA Region competition on Sunday, Daviess County narrowly edged out McCracken County by 0.25 points to finish first in Game Day. They also overcame Hopkins County Central to win Hip Hop Large.

“This was a great step for us,” Daviess County Head Coach Debbie Connor said. “We have so many new girls on the team that I believe it was a confidence booster for them. It made them realize they are capabale of putting in the work and reaping the benefits.”

The Lady Panthers qualified for the State Tournament in both categories, which is scheduled for December 14th at George Rogers Clark.

“We just need to keep practicing,” Connor said. “We will take the score sheets and what the judges’ comments were and just work on that. We will tweak what they were talking about and continue to work harder and improve on areas that we can.”

Daviess County wasn’t the only local school that finished atop the podium, with Apollo placing first in Hip Hop Small and third in Game Day.

“It feels great,” Apollo Head Coach Taiwanna Tutt said. “I feel a sense of accomplishment, extreme pride in the team that I coach, and I feel joy in just continuing the goal of accomplishment. It doesn’t always mean winning, but striving to be better from year to year. I feel gratitude toward the assistant coaches who are beside me and the parents who also support not only myself, but the dancers and the school itself.”

Apollo also qualified for state in both categories, and this time around, they want to leave with some hardware. A year ago, they were eighth in Hip Hop and 11th in Game Day.

“We have a few surprises up our sleeve for Hip Hop at state,” Tutt said. “We had some setbacks for both routines before we went into region, so we had to change quite a few things before region competition. We will add those back in.”

Owensboro also competed on Sunday and qualified for state after placing fourth in Game Day. They also finished seventh in Pom.
