Fire crews from multiple departments responded early Sunday morning to a structure fire on Reid Road that forced the occupants to escape through a bedroom window.
According to the Daviess County Fire Department, units were dispatched at approximately 6:35 a.m. on Jan. 18 to a reported structure fire at 418 Reid Road. Firefighters from DCFD were joined by the Thruston-Philpot Fire Department and the Yelvington Fire Department.
While en route, crews could see a column of heavy black smoke and visible flames, prompting a working fire to be declared, officials said.
According to DCFD, Unit 331 deployed multiple pre-connected hose lines and initiated a defensive fire attack. After knocking down the bulk of the fire, firefighters conducted a search of a bedroom near the rear of the home.
Fire officials said the occupants were able to crawl out of a bedroom window before crews arrived, allowing them to escape the fire.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
