Competing at the Bear Down Wrestling Invitational at Central Hardin, Owensboro finished ninth out of 30 teams. Daviess County placed 11th, and Owensboro Catholic was 13th.

For the Red Devils, Kameryis Rodriquez Cline was first at 157, beating the number 15th-ranked wrestler in the state in the finals. Isrell Roberts battled through a tough 138 bracket, finishing second.

“Our group showed a ton of growth and competitiveness following our performance at Thursday’s City County duals,” Owensboro Head Coach Griffin Kelley said. “I told our kids to relax, wrestle free, and have some fun today. They competed well, responded well when things got tough, and did a much better job wrestling full six-minute matches. It was a long day, but we’re proud of the way they represented our program.”

For the Panthers, Jah Patterson was first at 126 pounds.

The Aces brought six wrestlers, with Landon Mongold (165, 1-2), Keegan French (1-2), Logan Mongold (128, 3-2, 4th), Sam Brauer (144, 3-2, 4th), and Simon Thompson (5-1, 3rd) all holding their own.

“I was happy with the results,” Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Matt Allen said. “Not only is this a big tournament, but it’s against really tough competition. The guys wrestled hard, and three ended up on the podium.”
