After three days of grueling competition, Daviess County’s dance team’s run at a national title came up just 0.57 points short, finishing second overall in Large Varsity Hip Hop. They finished first overall in preliminaries with a score of 93.63 and advanced straight to the finals, where they were narrowly edged out by Bishop Moore High School. After winning Preliminary Group A, the Lady Panthers also finished fifth overall in Large Varsity Game Day with a score of 91.81.
“This team worked tirelessly for this moment. Every early practice, every correction, every push past exhaustion showed up in those performances,” Daviess County Head Coach Debbie Connor said. “Earning second place in Large Varsity Hip Hop by only a 0.57 point difference in score and fifth in Large Varsity Game Day, scoring 91.81, is something to be extremely proud of. They represented Daviess County High School well, competed with excellence, and proved they belong at the top.”
Joining them in Florida was Apollo, who just missed the podium, finishing fourth in Intermediate Hip Hop (80.3) and sixth in Small Varsity Game Day (87.98).
“We are leaving Orlando with our heads held high,” Apollo Head Coach Taiwanna Tutt said. “We placed sixth in Game Day and moved up four spots from preliminaries to finals. In Hip Hop, we placed fourth, and while shy of our ultimate goal, the competitive world of dance is not only complex, but also constantly changing. Although this wasn’t exactly what we wanted to come home with, we are still proud of ourselves. I also want to mention the amazing coaching staff and parents. Haley Defauw, Quincy Harris, and Kayla Kelley are such great coaches. This team and season wouldn’t be what they are without them.”
