In only three years with the program, Kennedy Lane has enshrined herself in Daviess County’s record books. Torching Owensboro for 32 points in the first round of the 9th District Tournament on Monday evening, Lane eclipsed Emma Johnson to become the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,766 points. Entering the 3rd Region Tournament this week, she has 2,484 points for her career.

“It felt great, and it has been something I have been trying to get,” Lane said. “Not just at Daviess County, but trying to reach that 2,000-point mark and to be able to break a record is even more special.”

Needing 18 points to break the record heading into the Owensboro game, Lane exploded for 12 points in the opening quarter. After scoring four points in the second, she made history with her first basket of the second half.

Lane’s high school basketball career dates back to when she was at Apollo as an eighth grader. Through two seasons with the E-Gals, she scored 718 points before arriving at Daviess County as a sophomore for the 2023-24 season.

During both her time at Apollo and Daviess County, she was coached by Natalie Payne, with the two building a special rapport over the years. Since joining the Lady Panthers, the duo helped the program win their first 3rd Region title in 2025, before snapping their 14-year 9th District championship drought last week.

“This means a lot,” Payne said. “Kennedy and I have had our ups and downs, but along the way, she has realized I’m her biggest fan besides her family. She trusts and believes in me, and that is all I need to believe in her. We have a special bond. Her seventh-grade summer is when I believe I first started coaching her. To be able to continue to do this with her, lead the pack, and carry us on her back when she needs to is really special.”
