For many families, pets are far more than animals. They are companions, confidants, and cherished members of the household. Owensboro Times is now offering a new way for the community to remember and celebrate those special bonds through pet obituaries, a dedicated space where families can honor the lives of their beloved pets.
The new feature allows readers to share the stories of dogs, cats, and other companion animals who have left a lasting mark on their families. Submissions can include photos, memories, and details about a pet’s personality, favorite activities, and the role they played in the lives of those who loved them.
“Pets are family for so many people,” said OT Managing Editor Ryan Richardson. “They’re there for the everyday moments and the big milestones, and when they pass, the loss can be just as real as losing any other loved one. This gives people a meaningful place to share those memories and celebrate the joy their pets brought into their lives.”
Unlike traditional obituaries, which focus on human life milestones, pet obituaries often highlight the unique quirks and memories that make each animal special — from favorite toys and treats to the way they greeted their owners at the door or comforted them during difficult times.
The OT pet obituary section provides a respectful way for families to memorialize their companions while allowing friends, neighbors, and fellow pet lovers in the community to read and reflect on those stories.
Owensboro Times encourages community members to share tributes for pets of all kinds, whether they were longtime family companions or beloved animals who made a difference in someone’s life.
Pet obituary submissions can be made directly here. It costs $35 to submit a pet obituary.
Each entry will be reviewed for publication online as a lasting tribute to the pets who brought joy, comfort, and companionship to the Owensboro community.
