Mason Head has been named principal at Apollo High School, with the announcement made Friday afternoon ahead of a reception welcoming him to the role. He will begin his new position July 1.
Head began his career in 2013 with Daviess County Public Schools at Apollo High School as an English teacher, where he emphasized relationship-building and data-driven instruction. Over nine years in the classroom, he focused on standards-based lessons tailored to meet individual student needs and literacy development.
He has served as assistant principal at Apollo for the past four years, overseeing teaching and learning while helping maintain the school’s instructional climate. His responsibilities have included evaluating instructional processes, supporting curriculum implementation, guiding student conduct through the Positive Behavior Intervention System, organizing school activities, and working closely with staff to support students.
Head holds two master’s degrees — one in administration from Western Kentucky University and another in teacher leadership from Georgetown College. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English literature from Georgetown College and later obtained Supervisor of Instruction and Director of Pupil Personnel certifications from Western Kentucky University. He is currently pursuing superintendent certification and is also a graduate of Apollo High School.
“I am honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of being Apollo High School’s next principal,” Head said. “As the instructional leader of Apollo, I am committed to ensuring that every student experiences high-quality, standards-driven, engaging instruction every day. As a school, we will focus on practices that promote critical thinking and student engagement to ensure all students are prepared for life beyond high school.”
Head said creating a welcoming environment will be a key priority.
“We want for every student to feel safe and welcome at Apollo — to develop a deep-rooted sense of belonging,” he said. “My goal is to lead and work alongside our faculty and staff to create meaningful experiences and opportunities for our students that enable them to develop into upstanding citizens. We are committed to upholding high standards of academic excellence, cultivating a positive school culture, and developing genuine relationships with families and the community. Ultimately, my goal is for us to honor Apollo’s proud history while leading our school toward an even brighter future.”
Daviess County Public Schools Assistant Superintendent for Human Services Dr. April Devine said the district followed a thorough selection process.
“Daviess County Public Schools has established a collaborative, thoughtful, and rigorous process for selecting school principals,” Devine said. “We were fortunate to have an exceptional pool of candidates for Apollo High School. Through surveys and feedback sessions, Apollo stakeholders expressed a desire for a student-centered leader who is hardworking, visible, and has a strong focus on academics and the Eagle Family culture. We are thrilled to introduce Mason Head as the next principal of Apollo High School. Mr. Head is a dedicated advocate for students and a passionate champion of excellence.”
