A cable maintenance project on the U.S. 231 William H. Natcher Bridge will resume Monday, prompting lane shifts and traffic changes that are expected to last through the summer, according to project officials.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the project began last spring but was paused during the winter due to worker safety concerns.
When work resumes, the northbound side of the bridge will be closed, with both northbound and southbound traffic routed onto the southbound lanes between mile points 13.5 and 14.8.
KYTC said that the traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until June. In late summer, both lanes will shift to the southbound side of the bridge for the next phase of work. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2026.
The William H. Natcher Bridge, a cable-stayed structure that opened in 2002, connects eastern Daviess County to southern Spencer County, Indiana. Approximately 8,400 vehicles cross the bridge each day.
