Two people were injured Thursday afternoon in a shooting incident that began in the 600 block of Park Plaza Drive, and police are searching for the suspect, officials say.
According to the Owensboro Police Department, Central Dispatch received a report of gunfire at 1:34 p.m. Witnesses told officers a white car and a black car met in a parking lot, where an argument broke out. Police said a man exited the white car and fired one round into the black car.
The victims drove away, with the suspect pursuing them south on Frederica Street, police said.
According to OPD, the victims turned into a business parking lot in the 3900 block of Frederica Street, while the suspect continued south on Frederica Street and was last reported leaving the Owensboro city limits. The Kentucky State Police and the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office were notified to watch for the vehicle.
Officers responding to the original scene on Park Plaza Drive located evidence confirming that a shooting had occurred and collected it as part of the investigation. Detectives are also searching the area for security camera footage.
Police said two victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. One person was cut by shattered glass, while the other was shot in the leg, according to OPD. Officers applied a tourniquet before AMR personnel provided additional treatment and transported both victims to the hospital.
The OPD Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the shooting. Police said the incident appears to be isolated, and the investigation remains ongoing.
